She's Growing Up

Yesterday, Ashley came home from her friend's house and told us that she wanted her ears pierced. And this came right after she and her friend ran back and forth the backyard to each other's houses, deciding what each one was going to wear to school today. I am so not ready for this. What will be next? "Can you drop us off at the mall so we can go shopping? Money please, mom." Probably that and drop offs at the movie theatre because boys from school will be there. I knew it would come eventually, but sixth grade? Doesn't that seem too soon?

And then I remember way back to when I was her age - 20 years ago (gulp). I remember how boy crazy I was, and how much I loved picking out my own clothes, because my mom's taste couldn't have been more different from mine. I remember, and I'm glad. Glad because she's becoming her own independent person with her own individual style and taste. She's growing up and I wouldn't have it any other way.

So, we headed out to Claire's after dinner for some ear piercing...

Before - scared, but brave.

After - happy and glad it's over.

Sounds like you have the right idea - my mom always supported my choices at that age (well, the ones that weren't immediately life threatening) and I think I turned out quite nicely. :)

For the record, my girly girl days didn't materialize until 7th grade - so I wouldn't worry. She's right on schedule.
