I Worked My Butt Off Moment

This week's challenge for HFH over at Baby Tea Leaves was to PUSH IT past my comfort zone at least once. So I did. Yesterday. And I survived. It wasn't a big thing, really. You see, normally I power walk on the treadmill for 10 minutes, then hit the elliptical machine for 10 and follow it up back on the treadmill for a final 10.

I get bored easily and changing it up keeps me from quitting. OK, it's also easier in 10 min increments. I don't want to get stuck in a comfort zone though and decided it was time to change it up - so I did 15 min on the treadmill and then 15 min on the elliptical and have every intention of upping the times more as I go along.

I use to take the group classes offered at the gym, but that is no longer an option when school is in session now that I'm working part time at one of the schools here. It's the only way I can actually work out for an hour without losing my mind. I miss those classes and am going to have to figure out how to survive the cardio machines in their place. (On days when there is only a half day or no school, I WILL spoil myself and make it to the classes on those days.)

So, that brings us to today's weigh in. I'm a nervous wreck because my weight has been bouncing around all week. While I've been working out most mornings during the week and have cut out fast food and am trying to eat right, I'm still struggling. I suspect that it may have something to do with too much sodium and building muscle. We'll see - I may have to get serious and starting counting calories or weight watchers points or something soon if I don't start getting the results I want.

Today's weight loss: 0 ugh. gained 1.5 pounds
Total weight loss to date: 3 pounds

What the???

Oh I feel you, sister!!!

I'm up two. But do not despair (or turn to the fridge! that little devil pretends to be a comfort but really he's evil!!)

I got pretty down on myself for gaining but I really shouldn't, we really shouldn't. As long as we're working hard, our bodies will follow. I know this. Even though man is it frustrating!! Keep on keeping on! Great job pushing those limits!!!

ps. I'm with you on the cardio machines!

I track my calories online because it's the only way that I've found that works for me (it's kind of a hassle that's not for everyone, but it works for me), but I also am focussed mostly on diet and less on exercise aside from my walking, so I really have to make that part count. Lots of people swear by Weight Watchers, and I think it accomplishes the same thing as my method but in a way easier way. I believe they have an online program as well.

Also, even though I had a really great last week, I gained. Still, I knew that at some point it would drop off, and it did, all at once, 2 pounds over night one night. I don't really get why, but that's how it seems to go with my body.

My point is that you are still going in the right direction and that I bet the pounds will drop, just that they are kind of sneaky and weird sometimes not doing it when we'd expect.

Keep with it, Lynda! A gain that slight could be attributed to a host of things. Frustrating, yes, but think about how much weight you will have lost next week when it all evens out! ;)

i am looking at your profile. i'm thinkin' you were anticipating the birth of ryan a lot longer than 6 years ago. that would make you still in your 20s...ahh-ha! that's why you haven't changed it!
:-)))

I gained last week & it is off (along with a bit extra) this week. I think that happens from time to time unfortunately. You are exercising way more than me. I do the elliptical for 10 minutes & think I am dying. Sounds like you are on the right track!

I wish I had read these comments BEFORE I put the cinnamon rolls in the oven!

Seriously, though. Thanks for all of your encouraging comments (you too, Em for pointing out how old I am!) It really helps keep me motivated. Even though those cinnamon rolls are in the oven already, I'm only going to allow myself one and save the rest for the kids and their friends afterschool.

Lynda,
You can do it! Diet+lifestyle change +exercise is our friend! Since I gave up salt and most processed foods/fast foods I feel so much better! I realized how much water my body can hold from sodium and have not had too much of a problem avoiding it! I also gave up soda and only drink water except for once a week on my free day. I am going with slow and steady wins the race nowdays. Water plays a big factor in the scale. I think how my clothes fit is a bigger sign of success. Good luck this week.
Peace,
Diva

Sorry! We all have off weeks, it happens. The important thing is overall change .. you will continue to drop the pounds, and you've already lost 3 pounds! Keep up the good work, I'll be rooting for you!
